Every Sandwich Holiday Event Lands on a Gardens Aglow Night This Year

November 5, 2026

Sandwich has three free holiday gatherings this year. The Littlest Christmas Tree lighting is on a Sunday in late November, Christmas in the Village turns 50 on the first weekend of December, and a brand-new Jingle Jog starts at Town Neck Beach on a Sunday morning in mid-December. Each one lands on a day when Heritage Museums & Gardens is running Gardens Aglow.

For anyone planning December from a Sandwich address, that overlap matters. You can pair a daytime event in the village with an evening at Heritage on the same day three times this season. The catch is cost. Heritage prices its day-of Gardens Aglow tickets at twice its advance tickets, so it pays to book the evening before the day arrives.

The Season Opens at 129 Main Street

The first holiday date on the calendar belongs to the Sandwich Glass Museum. On Friday, November 13, from 5:30 to 7 p.m., it hosts the 17th Annual Glassblower's Christmas Tree Unveiling, Exhibition Opening & Members Appreciation Party. The same evening opens a new exhibition, "This is what it looks like: Robert Harmon, Jr. and Experimental Images on Glass." The museum describes Harmon's work as glass in which "photographic imagery meets luminous color, painted gesture, and sculptural materials."

After the opening night, the trees stay up for the rest of the season. The Cape Cod Chamber's listing puts the Glassblower's Christmas display at 129 Main Street from November 15 through December 30, 2026. It runs daily from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. with a daily ticket or membership, and the ornaments the museum's glassblowers made for the trees are for sale through December 30.

That gives the museum a two-week head start on everything else, and it keeps daytime hours. Gardens Aglow is an evening event that doesn't open until Thanksgiving weekend. The Glass Museum is where to go in daylight, starting in mid-November.

Four Days That Fill Up Twice

From there the calendar shifts to Heritage. Gardens Aglow runs 25 nights between Friday, November 27 and Sunday, December 27, from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. Entry is sold in three timed windows each night: 4:30 to 5:45, 5:45 to 6:45, and 6:45 to 8:00 p.m. Each free village event this year falls on one of those 25 nights.

Sunday, November 29: A Tree on Shawme Pond, Then the Gardens

The Sandwich FUNdation has the Lighting of the Littlest Christmas Tree on Sunday, November 29, 2026, from 3 to 5 p.m. According to capenews.net's account of an earlier Sunday, November 30 lighting, people gathered at 2 Water Street. There were dances by Align Dance Training and Sandwich Dance Academy, carols from the Forestdale Winter Chorus, and a reading of Thornton Burgess' "The Littlest Christmas Tree" by state Representative Steven G. Xiarhos before the little tree on Shawme Pond was lit. The event was free, went ahead rain, snow or shine, and included a collection of toilet paper donations for the Sandwich Food Pantry.

The lighting ends at 5 p.m., and Gardens Aglow is open that Sunday. Either of the two later entry windows, 5:45 or 6:45, leaves time to get from the pond to Heritage.

Saturday and Sunday, December 5 and 6: Fifty Years of Christmas in the Village

Sandwich Christmas in the Village celebrates its 50th year on Saturday, December 5, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday, December 6, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Organizers describe it as a two-day holiday fair and sale that "magically appears across the town of Sandwich on the first weekend in December." Last year it covered 24 locations with more than 45 participants. They sold crafts, fine art, gifts, food, holiday ornaments, greens and décor, and the weekend also had special events and children's activities. This year's locations will go up on the event site as plans are finalized.

Green Briar Nature Center fits into the same Saturday. The Thornton W. Burgess Society has a family Holiday Berry Jam class on Saturday, December 5, from 10 a.m. to noon. Adults have their own sessions on Wednesday, December 9 and Thursday, December 10, both from 10 a.m. to noon. Registration is by phone at 508-888-6870.

Gardens Aglow is open both nights of that weekend. The fair closes at 4 p.m. on Saturday, half an hour before the first Aglow window opens. On Sunday the fair is done by 2 p.m., which leaves the whole afternoon free before an evening slot.

Sunday, December 13: The First Jingle Jog

The one new event this season is the 1st Annual Jingle Jog, put on by Sandwich Recreation and the Sandwich FUNdation. It starts from the Town Neck Beach parking lot at 151 Wood Avenue on Sunday, December 13. Event-day registration opens at 7:30 a.m., and the run starts at 9:00. The main route is a 3.2-mile fun run, and the Elf Loop is a 1.6-mile option. The listed donation is $20, kids under 10 run free, and adult-size event T-shirts cost $20. Proceeds go to the Sandwich FUNdation.

That same Sunday is a Gardens Aglow night too. You can run at the beach in the morning and see the lights at Heritage that evening.

The Nights Heritage Goes Dark

Gardens Aglow doesn't run every night between November 27 and December 27, so the nights it skips are worth knowing. Based on Heritage's published schedule, there is no show on these dates:

  • Monday, November 30, and Tuesday, December 1
  • Monday, December 7
  • Monday, December 14
  • Thursday, December 24, and Friday, December 25

Monday, December 21 is the one Monday on the schedule, and the show comes back for Saturday, December 26 and Sunday, December 27 after Christmas. The dark nights tend to come right after the busy village weekends. The Monday after the Littlest Tree, the Monday after Christmas in the Village, and the Monday after the Jingle Jog are all off.

What Waiting Until the Day Costs

Heritage's ticket pricing is the strongest argument for booking ahead. Advance tickets are for a specific date and entry time. Day-of tickets are sold only if any are left, and Heritage says they are not guaranteed.

Ticket type Adult Youth, 3 to 17 Member adult Member youth
Advance, date and time specific $30 $20 $28 $18
Day-of, if available $60 $40 $56 $36
Flex Anytime, one visit any scheduled night $60 $40 $56 $36
Gold Pass, unlimited visits $150 $100 $140 $90

A family of two adults and two kids between 3 and 17 pays $100 with advance tickets. The same family pays $200 if it waits until the day and finds tickets still on sale. Children 2 and under get in free, but Heritage asks that they still be included in the reservation so it has an accurate headcount. The Gold Pass costs five times an adult advance ticket. It only comes out ahead for someone who plans to go back more than four times over the 25 nights.

There are two special ticketed events, and both include Gardens Aglow admission. The Santa VIP Experience costs $59 and Avant Glow costs $75, each for ages 2 and up. Heritage also added a new ticketing system this year with an online waiting room to handle busy sale periods.

Heritage's 2026 event page lists visits with Santa in a 1913 Ford Model T, rides on the 1908 Looff carousel, a reindeer scavenger hunt, marshmallow roasting, a model train that runs when the weather allows, and a Cape Cod Donuts food truck.

Putting the Month Together

Lined up together, the 2026 dates look like this:
