In June, Alex Khan described a modest off-season for his new restaurant at 286 Grand Avenue. The Old Casino would run through the summer and then stay open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays once the beach crowd left, according to the Falmouth Enterprise's opening profile, which the Falmouth Heights-Maravista Neighborhood Association reprinted in full. Now it's October, and the restaurant posts something broader. The Old Casino's fall hours cover five days: Monday and Thursday through Sunday, with weekend doors opening at 8 AM.
Shipwrecked sits across Grand Avenue and opens every day. Put the two schedules together and the Heights waterfront has a place open on every day of the week this fall, with breakfast, live music and a game-day crowd spread across the week.
The Plan That Grew
The Enterprise story said no regular schedule had been set beyond the soft opening weekend in June. The three-day off-season was a starting plan. Khan also said he would improve the restaurant every winter, as he has done at Shipwrecked.
The building has a long backstory. Enterprise archives cited in that profile say the original casino went up in the 19th century and burned down in 1909. In the early 1900s the wharf even had a movie theater and a post office. The current building dates to 2004 and has nine units, eight of them residential condominiums. More than 750 people answered a survey Khan ran before opening. They remembered local musicians playing at the wharf, trading penny candy, and grabbing lunch from a service window after the beach.
"People want the old casino back," Khan told the Falmouth Enterprise, in the profile reprinted by the neighborhood association.
Live music at the wharf, the first memory respondents described, now runs every Friday, Saturday and Sunday on The Old Casino's calendar.
A Week on Grand Avenue
Here is how the two restaurants split the week, based on the hours each one posts now.
| Day | The Old Casino, 286 Grand Ave. | Shipwrecked, 263 Grand Ave. |
|---|---|---|
| Monday | 4 to 10 PM | Opens 11:30 AM, kitchen until 9 PM |
| Tuesday | Closed | Opens 11:30 AM, kitchen until 9 PM |
| Wednesday | Closed | Opens 11:30 AM, kitchen until 9 PM |
| Thursday | 4 to 10 PM | Opens 11:30 AM, kitchen until 9 PM |
| Friday | 4 to 10 PM, live music | Opens 11:30 AM, kitchen until 10 PM |
| Saturday | 8 AM to 10 PM, breakfast and live music | Opens 11:30 AM, kitchen until 10 PM |
| Sunday | 8 AM to 10 PM, breakfast and live music | Opens 11:30 AM, kitchen until 9 PM, Patriots promotions |
The Old Casino's kitchen closes at 9 PM even on nights the bar stays open until 10. Sushi at Shipwrecked runs daily from noon to 9 PM. Both restaurants say their hours can change with the season, so a quick call before a weeknight visit is a good idea.
Tuesday and Wednesday Belong to Shipwrecked
On the two days The Old Casino is closed, Shipwrecked keeps the Heights running. Its homepage announces a new fall menu of seasonal dishes and cocktails, and the restaurant calls itself a waterfront restaurant and sports bar. Shipwrecked doesn't take reservations, so midweek is the easy time to get a seat.
Sunday is the busy day there. For every eligible 1:00 PM and 4:25 PM Patriots game, each touchdown triggers random prize drawings from active dine-in checks. Prizes range from Shipwrecked merchandise and discounts to hotel stays, and they grow as the Patriots score more. The promotion invites fans to find a spot by the fireplace, and it's dine-in only.
The restaurant got some outside attention this summer. The Cape Cod Times reported on July 29 that Shipwrecked made USA TODAY's 2026 Bars of the Year list.
Khan owns both spots, but in June he told the Enterprise that The Old Casino isn't affiliated with his businesses across the street. A few favorites, including fish and chips, appear on both menus. "The hope is to provide an identity that complements rather than competes," he said. The fall schedule follows that idea. Shipwrecked has lunch, midweek dinners and football, while The Old Casino takes weekend mornings and music nights.
Saturday at 8 AM, Breakfast by the Beach
Weekend breakfast is the biggest part of The Old Casino's fall week. Breakfast by the Beach starts at 8 AM on Saturdays and Sundays, steps from Falmouth Heights Beach. The menu, last updated July 15, lists breakfast plates, pancakes, French toast, Benedicts, omelettes and bowls.
Inside, a full wall of historic photos lines the area past the hostess stand and bar. Out on the deck, whiskey barrels serve as standing cocktail tables next to lower seating, a layout meant to get people talking. Every seat looks out at the water, Falmouth Heights Beach and Martha's Vineyard in the distance. "There are so many more interesting things to look at here," Khan told the Enterprise.
The calendar also lists sunset cocktails every day the restaurant is open, weather permitting, with a view across Vineyard Sound. It promises off-season specials through fall, winter and spring, but hasn't posted dates for them yet.
The neighborhood association has already used the space. The Falmouth Heights-Maravista Neighborhood Association held its members-only Fall Cocktail Party at The Old Casino on September 27.
Getting There After Labor Day
The Old Casino offers free valet parking and accessible entry and seating, and street parking is available too. Walk-ins are welcome, and the restaurant recommends OpenTable reservations in summer. The free shuttle is a seasonal service. Its posted hours are summer hours, noon to 10 PM daily, covering Falmouth Heights, Maravista, Belmar and Acapesket. No fall shuttle schedule is posted, so call the restaurant at (508) 444-6016 before counting on a ride.
Halloween Runs From Main Street to the Heights
October 31 falls on a Saturday this year, the first Halloween with both Grand Avenue restaurants open. Here's how the day can go:
- Daytime on Main Street. The Falmouth Village Association's Street of Scarecrows lines Main Street through October 31. The Falmouth Village Halloween Stroll runs from 1 to 3 PM that day, with participating businesses welcoming trick-or-treaters.
- Morning or evening at The Old Casino. It's a Saturday, so breakfast starts at 8 AM, with live music later on.
- Late night at Shipwrecked. The Halloween Bash starts at 9 PM with DJ Gonz, dancing, a costume contest and festive drinks.
After that, the next big date is Falmouth Holidays by the Sea, which the Cape Cod Chamber lists for December 4 to 6. Between Halloween and that weekend, Grand Avenue keeps its fall schedule: Shipwrecked every day, and The Old Casino five days a week with breakfast on weekend mornings.
Falmouth Heights is our neighborhood too, and we'll keep an eye on how The Old Casino's off-season schedule changes through winter. If you own a place nearby or are just curious what's opening around Falmouth, Cape & Island Home is always happy to talk. Let's Connect.
